Designing for Shared Living

As part of Tech@NYU's Tech Treks program, I worked with a team of 3 to design and develop a roommate management app, built to help roommates split groceries, chores, and shared payments without the usual friction of tracking who owes what. I led the user flows, wireframes, and high-fidelity prototypes in Figma to create an interface that made shared living logistics simple and stress-free.

Challenge

How do you design one app that handles three completely different types of shared responsibility, chores, groceries, and money, without making users juggle three different systems?

Solution

With "one home, one system" as the guiding principle, I designed the app's core experience in stages:

  • Map out user flows and wireframes for each core function, chores, groceries, and payments, ensuring each felt distinct but lived within one consistent interface;

  • Build high-fidelity prototypes in Figma that prioritized clarity over complexity, making shared costs and responsibilities easy to see and update at a glance.

Impact

The final product gave roommates a single, simple way to manage shared responsibilities:

  • Unified chores, groceries, and payments into one interface, replacing scattered group chats, spreadsheets, or mental tracking

  • Reduced the mental overhead of remembering who did what and who owed whom

  • Delivered a cohesive, high-fidelity prototype that turned a messy, everyday problem into something roommates could actually rely on
